about

ZAMBIAN OFFERTORY is my interpretation of a sacred folk melody from the Poor Clare nuns of Zambia that I heard one morning while browsing online. I was captivated by its beautiful melody and intrigued by the fact that the Poor Clare nuns had managed to preserve their musical tradition of singing and drumming while embracing the religious traditions of Catholicism. This song embodies an ideal I desired to manifest as I grew up in the Pentecostal church but was also enamoured by African folk music — these are two worlds that didn’t always overlap when I was growing up in the 90’s.
