about

BIG OLE SHOES features a medium-tempo jig from the Tambrin tradition of Tobago. This composition is based on a children’s story I wrote called “Ben’s Big Ole Shoes.” In this story, Ben, a little boy from the village of Moriah, Tobago, eagerly prepares for his debut performance at the annual Tobago Heritage Festival and as he discovers his love for dancing he also learns an important lesson about patience and resourcefulness. The song evokes a sense of tribal elegance with its bassline in constant motion and a melody that dances and soars. My hope is to shine a light on Tambrin music while making a personal statement through composition.
